Kali's First Track Meet

Last week in Kali's Thursday folder from school there was a flyer about The Hershey Track Meet that was at Norman High. It was for anyone who wanted to compete and if you placed 1st or 2nd in your run or field event you could advance to the State Meet at OU. Pretty cool huh? Well Kali has never done track and I have taken her to watch Sara's track meet and she showed some interest in it so I figured why not try it out now. You could pick 2 running events and 1 field event or 2 field events and 1 running. Well Kali loves to run and constantly be moving so I signed her up for the 100 meter dash, the 400 meter run and the long jump. Now let me preface by saying Kali stayed the night at her friends house the night before and stayed up till 4 in the morning. So prior to even starting the track meet, she was tired.....

First up....instructions on the long jump. Kali is second from the left and her friend Reece is standing next to her in the red shorts.

Kali jumped 14 feet 9 inches...not bad for her first time :)

After Kali did her long jump, some friends of our (we met through my sister-in-law) were there with their three kids. Their oldest sun placed 2nd in his event and gets to go to the state meet at the end of the month! Too cool!

While we were waiting for Kali to run her 400 meter run, we sat under the bleachers in the shade and let the kids play around.

Now it was finally time to start lining up for the 8-9 year old girls 400 meter run...

And they're off.. Kali is the little white speck in front of the 3 large tree from the left.

Here she is coming around her last curve...she is in between the two dark shirts. At this point she was dying and I'm pretty sure if she could of and got away with it, she would of flipped us off as she ran by because she was not liking it. She did great though. She finished in 5th place. For having to run that long on her first time, she was awesome.

Now we just had to wait for her last even which was the 100 meter dash and that was the last event for the day...

So some of us took a little cat nap

after waiting around for about an hour and a half it was finally time for Kali's last event.

The kids were having a hard time staying in their lane, so one of the coordinators of the event would tell each kid which lane was theirs to run in.

This was by far her best event. She is defiantly a sprinter rather than a long distant runner :)

At the finish line taking a water break. I asked her after the meet if she had fun and she said it was ok. However, had she not stayed up all night the night before at her friends house I think she may of enjoyed it a little more..but she did say she wants to do it again!!! All in all we were at the track meet for 6 hours!! It was a long hot day out in the sun but when we got home there were two little girls who were ready for baths and bedtime :)
